I honestly think one of the greatest pleasures in life is reading. I could spend my life reading and never get bored. Therefore, every reading platform should be recognized and celebrated. Bookmate brings thousands of books to your phone that can help you live thousands of different lives.

But what is Bookmate all about?

Well, the truth is that this application is not just a simple reading platform. Apart from finding and reading the books that interest you the most, you can create shelves with many books to read, create lists (read, unread, favorites...), give your opinions and read those of other users, quotes choose, upload your own books, check recommendations, get reading achievements and of course it comes with social features too. By adding friends, you create something like a reading-focused Facebook where you can share thoughts, ideas, and opinions about authors, books, and texts.

You'll be able to install the APK file from the Play Store, but note that this tool only works with a premium user profile. This means that you have to pay an installment (hopefully that money ends up in the authors' pockets) to access the huge selection of files and extensive knowledge. The price is €7.99 per month (first month is free) or €94.99 per year.

Is it worth it? Well the idea is great and it's really cool, the only problem is that your eyesight probably won't be happy with it if you spend hours reading on a backlit screen, ie computers, tablets and smartphones. Because of this, eReaders don't have backlit screens, making reading a lot more enjoyable. So if you have an eBook reader with WiFi, that's probably the best way to get the most out of Bookmate.

Bookmate vs Smartbooks

The first is an application to read all kinds of books, while the second is a technological tool for adaptive learning that adapts to each person and their pace. So they're not the same type of tool and you don't have to choose between one and the other. If you're interested in a new way of learning and studying, smartbooks are for you, but that doesn't mean you have to give up reading literature.
