With the uTorrent P2P client for Android you can download all sorts of files from the torrent network to your mobile device, whether a smartphone or tablet.

Android version of the P2P client

The BitTorrent protocol was developed to simplify the exchange of files between peers (peer-to-peer) and to allow the transfer of large files without intermediaries. The latter is possible because the transferred torrent files store all sorts of metadata that contain information about their location but not their content.

This system is very popular for downloading large files and several clients have been developed to take advantage of it, starting with BitTorrent itself or its lightweight version known as micro torrent or utorrent.

The latter was originally developed for Windows, Mac and Linux, but with the advent of mobile devices we can now also download it in APK format for Android. The iOS version for iPad and iPhone is not available yet, so we can only wait and be patient.

The most important functions

The functions have been adapted to the characteristics of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, taking into account that these usually have less capacity than laptops and desktop computers and that they rely on mobile internet connections, which are not always via WiFi.

This development for Android mobile phones comes along with the following remarkable features:

  • Choose the location for downloading files.
  • Download torrents and magnet links.
  • Configure how the app works: Choose whether you want to download only on a WiFi network or also via your data plan.
  • No size or download restrictions.
  • Select files to download to minimize disk space.
  • Integrated multimedia player.
  • Configure a limited bandwidth for downloads.

How to download torrents on Android?

You just need to search for the torrents within the app to open a browser window. Once you've downloaded the file, you can immediately open it in the client, which will show you all sorts of information about each active download: the estimated time to complete, the percentage of the downloaded data in the total volume, and the download speed. Plus, you can easily pause, cancel, and resume the downloads.

The interface also shows the type of files downloaded and various details about their status, the date they were added to the client and the date of completion, or if we share the file and how many peers are connected.

Also, it offers the user a built-in multimedia player for any downloaded audio or video file so that he can listen or watch it without leaving the app.
