Thanks to Wakelock Detector for Android you can find out which applications use up your CPU and screen inappropriately, affecting your battery life.

Find out which apps are draining your battery

You've probably never heard of wakelocks, but you should know that they're responsible for dying your battery at the worst possible moment. These are basically Android mechanisms that help developers to check CPU lifecycle and screen health.

Normally, they don't pose a problem by themselves, but there are some applications, such as Facebook for Android, that make disproportionate use of wakelocks and are therefore responsible for draining your battery too much. But thanks to Wakelock Detector, you can now locate those apps and turn them off.

How does Wakelock Detector work?

Basically, the app offers you statistics showing how many Wakleocks each installed app is consuming on your Android device. Once the APK has been installed, you can access a detailed listing showing how long each app has been using wakelocks. This makes it possible to find out which ones are unlawfully consuming the CPU or which ones are responsible for your smartphone screen remaining activated and thus consuming the battery.

Does it also work without rooting? Unfortunately, no. Not even the paid full version allows it. This is also probably the only handicap this really useful app has to offer.
