The director of a.o. Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Starship Troopers also directed the 1987 film RoboCop, in which a police officer is used by a security technology company in a cutting-edge experiment. Verhoeven put his personal stamp on this film with a heavy dose of action, violence and sarcasm in the form of totalitarian propaganda not too far removed from our reality today.
