Lasso is Facebook's own TikTok, an Android app created by this social network to make and post short videos with a philosophy identical to musical.ly

A short social network for videos

TikTok Musical.ly has been one of the most successful social applications for creating short videos for quite some time. As many of you already know, Facebook's strategy is based on hoarding all online communication related to social networks and platforms. It started with its own social network and has gradually acquired other services such as WhatsApp and Instagram (it has even tried to acquire Snapchat). Now, given the success of TikTok, it has come up with its own alternative: Lasso. With this app, like any tiktoker, we can make short recordings with soundtracks and create memes to the delight of our followers.

An app for teenagers

The idea behind this new application from Facebook, Inc. is to attract the attention of the youngest members of society, the most frequent users of this type of app. That's why Facebook's TikTok user interface has been reduced to the minimum and priority has been given to browsing content via hashtags as well as creating videos.

You won't find too many differences between Lasso and TikTok as one can see by looking at the list of functions and features of this application. The Menlo Park creative guys didn't have to come up with too much to come up with this app:

  • A wide range of tools: it comes with functions to edit videos as well as effects, tools to integrate text into videos, music for recordings,... all the latter within the app so everything can be applied in real time.
  • A great music library: Facebook tries to boast of having one of the largest music libraries, ranging between the classics and the most modern music trends. You're bound to find the song you're looking for for your videos.
  • Find out what's trending: Forget browsing through categories because Lasso sorts all of its content by hashtags, so the video layout combines tagging with trending content.
  • Share your story: since it is connected to Facebook, you can also project your creativity on your profile on this social network. You can do this with a single tap, but you can definitely control what and where you share at all times.

We'll soon see the reception of Zuckerberg's new toy and find out if it's capable of taking on TikTok, or if it's just another IGTV unable to pick up a fight against YouTube.
