Haven: Keep Watch is an application that detects intruders capable of turning your Android phone or tablet into a surveillance sensor for private areas.

The surveillance app developed by Edward Snowden

We've seen how our phones can become private surveillance tools, for example by recording video with their cameras. Edward Snowden, the former NSA operative whose whereabouts remain unknown as he leaked confidential documents revealing how this US national security agency was spying on everyone, has now gone a step further with Haven: Keep Watch.

It's an application that turns your mobile device into a motion, sound, vibration and light sensor to detect intruders in a private space. This application is recommended to all people who need to protect their personal spaces without compromising their privacy.

Key Features and Functions

These are the main features of this application:

  • Haven was designed for people who want to detect intruders in their home, office, hotel room or other private space.
  • Turn your phone into a sound, motion, vibration and light detector and keep an eye on unexpected visitors and unwanted intruders.
  • Receive instant notifications of intruders and access detections remotely or physically.
  • Receive an alert on a phone number of your choice as soon as something is detected.

The app, whose APK is free to download and use under an open-source license, combines our device's native technology with that of other privacy apps like Signal and Tor. We can take photos and record audio and send them to the user via encrypted messages to the phone number of their choice. The latter without storing files in the cloud.

In order to be able to register all these movements, Haven monitors our accelerometer activity to detect any vibrations on our phone, camera, microphone, light sensor and battery, as it also detects if it has been disconnected or if the charge is strong subsides.

This application was developed with journalists in mind, but basically it's for anyone who is at risk of being forced into disappearance.
