Some years ago, someone who used to work for NVIDIA said that the future of video games is cell phones. And it wasn't far off, as the casual gamer divisions of the biggest studios have seen their income grow exponentially.

The majority of consumers of these mobile games are essentially the youngest members of the household. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that there are a lot of video games for mobile with childish or even cartoonish characters.

You might have missed the first episode of a 90's anime series called Beyblade, but don't worry because we're here to tell you what it's all about. This series, like the "Masters of the Universe" in the 80's, was released to support the commercialization of futuristic looking spinning tops known as Beyblades. In fact, the characters of this anime participated in gyro battles to earn points for winning the championship.

And this game that we're talking about now, the BEYBLADE BURST app, is basically the same. Simply create a player profile to get a first set of tops to play at the beginning of the game (which you can upgrade with experience points or with the well-known pay-to-win method). You'll be offered a short tutorial and then it's up to you to head into the arena to compete against other players.

You can get new tops in two different ways: you can win different competitions or battles, or you can scan QR codes attached to a real-life Beyblade. Of course, this is to encourage you to buy physical tops at the nearest store.

In terms of gameplay, each battle takes place in an arena where you control the Beyblade of your choice while your rival chooses their Beyblade. Choose the trajectory you throw your top to drain your opponent's life bar each time you hit them. Depending on the Beyblade you're using, you can perform two special attacks.

Either way, your victory or defeat seems to depend more on luck than on a well-planned strategy. At the end of the day, it's not Clash Royale or anything like that. But that doesn't mean it isn't great fun because this app can definitely help you to while away your free time while waiting for the bus or subway.
