Spotify, the most popular music streaming service in the world, ahead of other giants like Apple Music or Deezer with over 140 million subscribers, has decided to release a new experimental application. It's called Stations by Spotify and it's a specialized application that allows the user to listen to radio stations and playlists previously created by the service itself.

Spotify uses users' preferences, its playlists and the configuration of their accounts for the music streaming service to create the stations of this radio service.

Differences between broadcasters and Spotify

Although paid music streaming services have been around for years with dozens of benefits, there are still users who refuse to pay a monthly fee to be able to listen to music without ads.

This experiment intends to offer the service for free in order to offer a music service with a much smaller and simplified catalog to those users who do not want to pay more. Unlike the original Spotify app, this new service would not allow us to search by artist, album or song, create playlists or sync the app across our devices or platforms. The system simply plays a radio station with songs from a certain music genre and we can decide whether we want to listen to it or switch to another station by pressing the station with our finger.

Unfortunately, this service is only experimental for now and is still being improved. To that end, it's currently only available in Australia and hardly anyone has downloaded it. If you really want to try it though, you can also try a VPN service, although it's probably not the best option. If you are looking for a radio platform that recommends music, then you should rather try Pandora.
