The app for the digital COVID vaccination certificate from the Robert Koch Institute

The governments of various countries around the world, where mass vaccination against COVID-19 is progressing the fastest, require the presentation of vaccination certificates. In the case of Germany, that certificate is issued by the Robert Koch Institute, the federal government's central agency for disease surveillance and prevention.

The app for the RKI vaccination certificate

CovPass is used to show the vaccination certificate in necessary situations or when the user deems it appropriate. The app includes a QR code reader so that the certificate can be scanned once it has been issued by the attending physician. It is then saved by the app and only data such as the vaccination status, the injected vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen…), the user's name and their date of birth are saved.

This tool has been developed in such a way that user data is protected to the maximum. Why it is not necessary to register with personal data (apart from an email address). Furthermore, the data is not stored on any online platform, only on the device.

This COVID passport is also used to show family members vaccination certificates if they are minors or do not have the ability to save a certificate to their device.
