What would we do today without geolocation or Google Maps? Younger generations are amazed at how we used to get to our destinations with a simple road map. So did the residents of South Korea, the only country in the world without access to Google Maps.

A little piece of history

All the fuss stems from a 1947 South Korean law that forces the government to take all possible measures and restrictions to protect the country of South Korea. Therefore, the map information of this country could not be shared with Google. However, when you access Maps, you will see this country's information in a different style as this American company has been replaced by local companies like KakaoMap.

How it works

The Korean company Kakao Corp. created this application so you can find everything you are looking for in one digital map. This tool offers routes for cars, public transport, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as real-time information on the fastest routes and waiting times.

You don't need to install another navigation app because this app works autonomously. You can also use the two-dimensional visualization, a 3D map or even the bird's eye view so that you can see the buildings in three dimensions. In addition, it shows interesting places according to their location, such as restaurants, shops and sports centers.
