The World Health Organization makes its hearWHO application available to us, a free tool to help us detect symptoms of hearing loss and test our hearing.

WHO's app to check your hearing

The hearWHO app is a free tool from the World Health Organization (WHO) to test your hearing and identify possible hearing loss with a simple hearing test. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of hearing health, which can deteriorate due to the influence of various factors.

Early detection of hearing loss using your smartphone

To take the WHO hearing test, all you have to do is download hearWHO for free and connect a pair of headphones to your phone. After reading a short guide and filling out the user profile with some basic information, the test can begin.

The listening test consists of a total of 23 audios. In all, three numbers will be heard over a gradually increasing background noise. The task is to enter the numbers you hear (or what you think you hear) on the virtual keyboard.

Once the listening test is complete, the hearWHO APK will display our score, which will be saved in history. If the value is above 75 points, the hearing is good. However, if it is below 50, it is an indication that the user may be suffering from some degree of hearing loss. And although the WHO advises that this app does not provide a medical diagnosis, it can serve as a cue to seek professional help.
