Would you like to instantly know whether the food products you are buying are healthy? El CoCo will help you to eat well and avoid ultra-processed foods

A guide to buying the healthiest foods

Lately, the media has been bombarding us with the message that ultra-processed foods are bad for our health. This demonization makes sense as these types of products have been shown to contain a large number of artificial ingredients and chemical products that cause disease over time along with addiction.

But how can we avoid them? Advertisements often present a product as super healthy, only to find out later that it's pretty bad for you. With El CoCo you will know immediately whether you should buy a certain food or just leave it on the supermarket shelf.

Learn to eat healthily

Using this app is very easy. You just have to tap on the home screen to open a scanner that works through your Android device's photo camera. Scan a product's barcode and you'll know instantly if a food is actually healthy or just backed by a wonderful (and deceptive) marketing campaign. This tool is based on two food classification systems recognized by the scientific community:

  • NOVA. This is a system used by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), among others, to indicate whether a food is ultra-processed or not. To do this, it has four classification groups.
  • nutricore. This is like a traffic light that shows whether a food is healthy or not. It is color coded and rated from A to E, with A representing best nutritional value and E representing foods to avoid.

The two systems complement each other and give you a lot of information about the groceries that you have at home or that you plan to buy. Don't let the ads fool you - now you have the tools to avoid them.
