Adblock Plus for Android is the application that you can use to block invasive adverts that consume data, spread malware, and track the user's activity.

The app for blocking invasive ads

One of the most annoying things about browsing the Internet is definitely the intrusive and unethical advertisements that we encounter on many websites. As you know, banners pop up that hinder our browsing and tempt us to click on them accidentally, leading at best to data consumption, if not downloading some stupid add-on that fills our smartphone with junk.

However, there are first world solutions to this problem and one of them is Adblock Plus. It's an Android extension that you can download for free that helps you block ads, disable trackers, and ban domains known for spreading malware. This extension is very popular on smartphones, but it can also be downloaded for PC as an add-on for some of the most popular browsers: Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Maxthon, Yandex and Safari.

How adblock works

Now that you know what Adblock is all about, let's explain how it works. It works using filter lists, which are actually sets of rules that tell the software what to block and what not to. The user can add any filter list they want as they can define their own, although by default two are initially enabled:

  • A list of ads to block based on the user's language.
  • A list of exceptions with acceptable ads.

Are all ads blocked?

Applications like Adblock and other alternatives are not without controversy. This is mainly because installing these applications also blocks the ads that websites use to make money. True, it can help us save data and gain speed, but there are also acceptable advertising that do not interfere with the user's browsing experience.

Adblock's developers are aware of this fact and offer the user a lot of flexibility to configure the filters to their liking, inviting them to determine the criteria according to which an ad will be considered acceptable or unacceptable.

How to install Adblock on Android?

To install this app we must download its APK and allow the installation of applications from unknown sources in our device's settings. Then we must configure it to enable and disable the block lists that filter the ads.

And if you're wondering how to uninstall or disable ABP, we also tell you what to do: just go back to the settings and then in the "Application Management" section select uninstall.
