YouTube Go

YouTube Go is an Android application developed by Google that offers us downloads and greater control over our data consumption when playing videos.

Until now, trying to find an application that downloads videos from YouTube to Google Play has been quite complicated. As a developer, you are usually not allowed to share this type of content on the official Android application store, although you can do it on other alternative markets of the likes of Aptoide or Blackmart without any problems. But it all depends on who you are... of course if you are Google you can do whatever you want.

The reason why they developed this application is that they want to bring the video portal to countries and areas in the world where the internet connections are not that fast. Something similar to Facebook Lite, the social network application that optimizes data consumption and offers us a minimalist user experience. Now it's YouTube Go that is trying to offer a similar concept to bring online video streams to the whole world.

This app is based on two basic policies that allow the user to:

• Select the quality of the video to play.
• Download the video to your smartphone or tablet.

For now, it's only available in APK format for Android, while iOS device users of the likes of iPhone or iPad will have to wait, although there are quite a number of fake apps pretending to be official.

Play videos with less data consumption

In other words, if you want to watch the latest funny cat videos, Justin Bieber's latest video clip, or Messi's latest artwork, you can use less data.

However, it has certain limitations. For example, the feature to download videos is geographically restricted: this app is mainly aimed at India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other countries in that area. Therefore, if you live in London or New York, you may forget to save the videos to play them offline.

Again, this application isn't a YouTube converter or anything like that: you can't rip or convert the audio, and you can't convert from one format to another.
