Google Assistant Go is the lite version of Google's assistant that consumes fewer resources of our phone and less battery by waiving other minor options.

The lite version of Google Assistant

Google has been developing a group of applications called GO for quite some time. We're talking about new versions of its most popular apps, but much lighter and adapted to smaller capacity smartphones and tablets.

Now, after releasing other lite versions of the likes of Maps Go or YouTube Go, the internet giant arrives with Google Assistant Go, the new lite version of its virtual assistant that consumes less resources and battery than the main version with almost all the same features and options.

Key features of the GO version of Google's virtual assistant

With the help of a few simple voice commands that the user can easily remember, this version of the Google Assistant can perform the following actions without us having to touch our smartphone or tablet:

  • Ability to make quick phone calls.
  • Play music from YouTube or player.
  • send text messages.
  • Search the Internet for information or an address.
  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Discover what events are taking place near our location.
  • Ask questions and get an answer.

However, unlike the full version of Google's personal assistant, this APK file doesn't allow us to control our home by voice, since it contains fewer voice commands and is unlikely to be compatible with Google hands-free or the OK Google command.

For now, the application is only available in English, so we'll have to wait to try it in other languages. Also, it's not very useful at the moment since it's an app designed for low-end devices with hardly any storage or RAM, but it requires Android 8.0, which sounds quite contradictory at the moment.

Requirements and further information:

  • Minimum operating system requirements: Android 8.0.
