PlantNet allows you to identify wild plants with just a photo. You've only got to take a picture of the plant or its organs and compare it with the database

App for identifying wild plants

Turn your smartphone into a plant identification tool with PlantNet. Developed by members of scientific institutions such as CIRAR, INRIA, IRD, INRA and the Tela Botanica network, this Android app uses your device's camera to compare images of the plants documented in their database.

A photo to identify a plant

Plants are automatically identified if they have enough references in the database. The latter allows contributions from any user who wants to help out with new plants, provided they are properly registered.

How does PlantNet work?

To know which plant it is, use your phone's camera and follow these instructions:

  • Take a picture of the organ alone and on a flat background.
  • Apply it to wild plants.
  • Geotag the plant.

There is also a field for your own observations and the opportunity to view the contributions of other users
