With Snapchat on your mobile you can post stories, chat, apply fun filters and lenses to your photos, send them to friends and make them disappear.

The social network with filters and ephemeral short messages

Although it's not as popular as it was a few years ago, and other networks like Instagram and TikTok have stolen a large chunk of its users, there's still a certain amount of user mass on Snapchat. It is a messaging application and social network with multimedia support for images, videos and augmented reality photo filters, developed in 2010 by three Stanford students. The videos created with it, called snaps, have the special feature that they delete themselves ten seconds after the respective recipient has seen them, in order to protect everyone's privacy.

This temporary character allows us to share any image or video that we are in and that we don't want to be permanently available on the internet: that is, stupid photos, spicy photos, or just photos that we are too embarrassed to share to upload them to our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account.

Key Features

The most important properties are the following:

  • Send pictures, videos and photos to the contacts in your address book.
  • Apply different lenses, filters or Bitmojis to the photos you send.
  • Share fleeting messages with friends or in groups.

  • Receive a notification every time recipients intercept your message.
  • Chat with friends or participate in video chats with up to 16 friends at the same time.
  • You can upload stories, view other users' stories, or receive information from them.
  • The Featured section showcases the best of Snapchat.
  • You can share your location with friends or make the map disappear with ghost mode.
  • You can save photos and videos of your favorite moments.
  • You can create friendship profiles between two users with shared content and moments.

Much more than fleeting messages

Snapchat was originally designed as a communication app for exchanging messages and photos, but for a while now, many users have turned to the app simply for the fun effects that can be applied to any photo. To do that, all you have to do is:

  1. Step 1: Focus on your face with the selfie camera.
  2. Step 2: Tap anywhere on the screen.
  3. Step 3: Discover the pop-up menu with the different filters available.
  4. Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions like opening your mouth or blinking to enjoy the real-time effects.
  5. Step 5: Add text and stickers to your snap.

In this case you have to click on the middle circle to take the picture (you have to hold it longer if you want to take a video) and then click on the blue arrow that opens a menu where you can choose to whom you want to send your message.
